Nigeria Nollywood Acteress Monalisa Chinda's is being sued By ex editor Kelvin Keshi and Lanre Nzeribe

Kevin Keshi, the former editor of actress Monalisa Chinda and boyfriend Lanre Nzeribe's magazine, Monalisa, is suing her, Lanre, their company and two police officers. Below is a press statement released by Kelvin's lawyers.
Compliments of the season. We are solicitors to Mr. Kelvin Keshi and writing on his behalf. In view of the unbalanced report of City People Magazine not verifying information before publishing, in disregard of  some of the sacrosanct  principles of journalism of balance, fairness and objectivity, we hereby state our client's case. On Friday, our office, Megafield Solicitors filed an action against Monalisa Chinda, Lanre Nzeribe, his company, Lantana International Ltd., the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State and two police officers, whom Monalisa and Lanre have been using. Background: Kelvin Keshi, who my office represents, was a staff of Genevieve Magazine. He joined the company in 2008 as a Staff Writer, rose to the position of Senior Staff Writer and later rose to the position of Assistant Features Editor. In April, 2013, a former staff of Genevieve Magazine, one Isaac Oladipupo recommended Kelvin Keshi to Lanre Nzeribe, MD of Lantana International Lltd. Lanre said his Company wants to go into lifestyle publication and wanted Kelvin to resign and be the editor of the magazine. Kelvin resigned in April, 2013, did the foundational work, including recruitment of staff and gave general editorial direction to the proposed magazine. On the 3rd of June, Lantana International Ltd, through Lanre Nzeribe issued him a three months provisional employment and unilaterally changed the agreed negotiation to Assistant Editor. He had also deliberately delayed the appointment letter until Kelvin had started work to reduce the chances of rejection of the offer, which was a breach of their verbal agreement. In trying to cover up his betrayal of trust, he promised to make the employment permanent after three months. But in the second month Lantana International, publishers of Monalisa Magazine started owing salary and after extracting enough editorial contents from Kelvin Keshi, they announced to workers that the magazine was suspending its editorial unit. That was late August. Two months’ salary were owed as at this time. No termination was made. Kelvin demanded for his salary arrears and the company made payment of July salary with a promise that August salary will be paid later. Monalisa and Lanre cut off communication with him, consequent on him going online to report the injustice meted out on him by the company. Monalisa and Lanre, in particular felt offended and using Monalisa as a front as usual, wrote a letter to the Lagos state police command, alleging that Kelvin stole the company’s identity card, flash drive, internet modem and laptop (the laptop Kelvin uses belongs to him and was bought by him with proof of receipts). It was obviously a crooked and calculated ploy to turn the disagreement between both parties on its head and make it appear as a criminal matter so he could involve the police to harass Kelvin. He reported, and one DSP Thompson, whose action and body language portray a man that has been bought by the ‘couple’ called Monalisa and Lanre ‘my clients.’ He declared Kelvin guilty while investigation was still on-going, ordered him to be detained for over 36 hours. As a condition for his release and payment of his August salary arrears, the said DSP Thompson instructed retraction of the publication, return of the company identity card, internet modem and flash drive. All the conditions were met. But Lanre Nzeribe and Monalisa vowed that the salary will not be paid. They kept instigating the police to arrest and charge Kelvin to court for a matter that police have no business with. What was done was suspension of the editorial department and not termination of his employment. Monalisa and Lanre also doctored his C.V and claimed that Kelvin lied that he was the Editor of Genevieve Magazine before he joined them. Kelvin has never lied about his qualifications or experience; he lets his work do the rest for him. And why would Monalisa lie so  hollowly just to cover her guilt tracks? What reason does Kelvin have to lie about his qualifications or CV? Genevieve Magazine’s staff list and the corresponding position is published on the team list page in every edition. In view of the fact that the police is delving into a pure civil matter and the failure of the police to act on our petition of 22nd October, 2013 to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, against the actions, conduct and utterances of DSP Thompson, leader of the investigating team, we went to court for the court to determine if the matter is a civil matter or a criminal matter and whether suspension is the same thing as termination. The matter comes up on the 16th of January, 2014. Monalisa also granted and interview to City People last week where she alleged amongst other that Kelvin Keshi is not a qualified journalist. While we will address the defamatory angle next year at the high court, we want to also make clear some facts in response to Monalisa’s malicious but comical and empty lies in the said interview. Kelvin has a degree (HND) in Mass Communication from the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi; and has distinguished himself in his field of expertise since his undergraduate days. While at school, he was the editor of a campus magazine. At the NYSC camp after graduation in Obubra, Cross River State; he was the Editor-in-Chief of the Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS). With an excellent track record at the camp, the NYSC state secretariat ensured he was posted to the Cross River Broadcasting Service (CRBC), Calabar strictly on merit. He was the President of the Publicity CDS Group and Editor-in-Chief of the NYSC Passing Out magazine. On completion of NYSC, Kelvin worked as Reporter/Researcher with the News Magazine;was  Editor of Genexx Magazine; and was Staff Writer, Senior Staff Writer and Assistant Features Editor at Genevieve Magazine in less than three years.  He has authored two novelettes, Bukky and Friends; and Agu, the son of the gods – which are both highly rated and gradually making inroads in the literature market. So what qualifications was Monalisa talking about? Lastly, she made an amusing claim when she said they ‘helped’ Kelvin by hiring him. That was the height of clannishness. On the contrary, it was Kelvin who ACTUALLY did Lanre and Monalisa a huge favour by agreeing to lend his knowledge, skills and experience to them in laying the foundation of the place. Kelvin insists Lanre and Monalisa had no clue about how to achieve what they wanted until he gave the blueprint, editorially and administratively. Monalisa Chinda ordinarily ought to be a role model to her 'fans.'  Why would she delve into fabrication of documents, criminal distortion of truth by giving police false information, and defaming on the pages of the media the reputation and integrity of a well qualified journalist by calling him half-baked and unqualified? The courts will decide. Let us also state here that with regard to the ‘office romance’ Monalisa kept harping on in her desperate attempt to clean up her mess, the lady in question was only a colleague and is still a friend of Kelvin Keshi.

Foreign Affairs Ministry Over 15,000 Nigerians In Overseas Prisons

No fewer than 15,000 Nigerians are being imprisoned abroad, with the largest number of 820 in the United Kingdom, Dankano Abdulazeez, the Director, Consular and Immigration Services, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has spoken. Mr. Abdulazeez said  in Abuja that lots of the prisoners were in the Asian/pacific region for drug-trafficking  offences or so. The figure  of more than 6,000 over the official figure published by the ministry earlier this year. "The figure cannot be exact in some countries' laws do not allow them to reveal such information. "Sometimes our missions go through serious challenges to get the vital information," Mr. Abdulazeez said. He also quoted that ''Nigeria and Thailand were currently implementing a Prisoner Transfer Agreement (PTA), which has seen the repatriation of about 450 Nigerians prisoners since 2007''. According to Mr Abdulazeez, the PTA allows the return of a prisoner to serve out his sentence in his/her home country where both jurisdictions are in agreement. Mr. Abdulazeez listed the U.K., India China as other countries with which Nigeria had concluded bilateral PTA but have yet to sign the agreements. "The three agreements are ready for signing and at a convenient time for the countries, they will be signed," he said. Mr. Dankano said the agreement with India was concluded last month following the visit of a high-level Nigerian delegation to New Delhi to negotiate some outstanding agreements with the country. On the U.K., the official said that Nigeria had an existing PTA under the Commonwealth scheme that had facilitated the repatriation of only one prisoner. "Under that (commonwealth) agreement, the prisoner has to consent before repatriation as that is the practice in international human rights. "The commonwealth scheme is still open and convicted prisoners can opt to come back through that scheme or through the bilateral PTA that will soon be signed," he said. He said that about 300 Nigerians in UK prisons are qualified for repatriation under the bilateral PTA, and that the U.K. government would defray the cost of bringing them home. Mr. Dankano said that 22 Nigerian prisoners in Hong Kong had indicated their willingness to return home to complete their terms. "I went to Hong Kong recently and met with each of the prisoners and they indicated their interest to come back home and complete their prisons terms. "Hong Kong is a special administrative region under China, so we had to seek the Chinese government's approval before going into the negotiations. "We got the approval, did the negotiations and in the New Year we will find a convenient time to sign the agreement and bring back the 22 Nigerians," he said. He added that under the transfer agreement "the consent of the convicted persons is required before repatriation, in addition to the consent of the authorities in both states". The ministry official said that there are 665 Nigerian prisoners in various prisons in India and the ministry was yet to determine how many of them are qualified for transfer to Nigerian prisons. He explained that Nigerians serving capital punishments "cannot be transferred home even if they consent to return home". Mr. Dankano said that repatriating prisoners back home was usually a hard bargain for the country as most airlines are cautious of transporting them. “We have not recorded any incident yet and the Nigerian government does not pay for any prisoner to be transported home. "We can only facilitate their return and when they come, government will shoulder the responsibility of maintaining them until they end their term; that is what is in the agreement," he said.

Nigeria Federal Government To Ban Telecommunications Provider For Poor Service Delivery

The Federal Government is to ban telecoms operators, found to be deceiving subscribers through poor service. The Minister of Communications Technology, Mrs Omobola Johnson, made the announcement at a news conference. She said the ministry had commenced collaboration with the CPC {Consumer Protection Service} to discipline operators rendering poor services . "The ministry, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the CPC are now working together to deliver appropriate customer redress to telecommunications subscribers. "These will include but not limited to reduce on airtime, usage irregularities, inaccurate billing and options to move out of unnecessary SMS messages," the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said over 120 millions telecoms subscribers in the country had been at the receiving end of poor service delivery that had made it impossible for them to make or receive calls. The minister said that subscribers had also been at the receiving end of poor customer care lines, unrelenting sales promotions by the networks and deceiving broadband speed adverts by service providers. Omobola said that the imposition of fines on the service providers for which the NCC collected N1.7 billion 22 months ago had not made the companies to provide better services. She noted however, that the ministry had reached out to state governments to reduce the multiple taxation imposed on the telecoms operators, saying that the cost of right of way on federal highways had been reduced by about 90 per cent. "We have also negotiated an agreement with State Governments  to reduce cost of right of way on state highways and for them to also reduce the charges on infrastructure," she stated. She said that the ministry had since reached understanding with the Lagos, Ekiti, Cross River and Rivers Government on outright waivers on some charges imposed on telecoms providers. According to her, the Federal Executive Council has also approved a new bill on  crime which has severe penalties for wanton destruction of telecommunications infrastructure. The NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Dr Eugene Juwah, said the commission had issued a Dec. 31, 2013 deadline to stop telecom operators from selling SIM packs or expanding their networks if they failed to improve services. The Director-General of the CPC, Mrs Dupe Atoki, said the council had constituted a consumer education taskforce to enlighten consumers on their  privileges. Atoki pleaded for more funds from the FG to enable the CPC to work harder to achieve the goals for which it was set for, assuring Nigerians that the company would live up to it value.

Shocking Dino Melaye's Wife Files For Divorce

Things have fallen apart in the home of controversial Kogi state ex law maker Dino Melaye . His 10year old marriage has crashed like a pack of cards and Tokunbo his wife and mother of his three kids has taken to her heels filing for divorce in the process. According to sources, ''the drama between Dino and his wife will take a full week to narrate. They had a lot of problems and each time they had an argument be sure that his wife would end up in hospital being treated for injuries of all kinds.she was a punching bag. Aside from allegedly sleeping with his house girl, which was one of the major problems, there are also confirmed whispers that sometimes when Tokunbo went to work he removed her pix from the house walls and brought in different women in their matrimonial bed telling them his wife had died, and even getting the domestic staff to say their madam was resting with the Lord''  The insiders continue: ''for the past 9yrs Dino has been beating his wife to the point that there are police records stating some reported instances. She was five months pregnant with her second son when  the beatings began, and it got worse. she was rushed to Zanlin hospital in 2005 at exactly 10pm, and was treated for injuries on  the head. He had hit her with an iron rod. In October 2010, she was rushed to Wuse general hospital by the police themselves after she ran in her bloodied nightgown with deep cuts on her arms. The report says Dino used a plank to flog her aiming for the head but she used her arms to protect herself and ended up with very deep cuts that needed emergency room attention. On September 25,2013 Tokunbo and Dino had an argument and he pulled a silver pistol to her head and was seconds away from pulling the rigger when his ringing phone distracted him. She took off leaving behind her shoes. She has filed for divorce and wants custody of the kids but she has not been allowed to see them or have any contact with them. Insiders say on that September 25th morning, the altercation which led to Dino pulling out his gun had to do with a dressing gown in the wardrobe belonging to Dino. His wife attempted to put it on and the law maker refused telling her that all the dressing gowns and perfumes he had were gifts from his girlfriends and he did not buy them with money. The wife allegedly retorted by saying she could as well accept gift from male friends and Dino exploded accusing his wife of referring to her ex boyfriend and asking her to leave his house. He pointed a gun to her head and the drama ended with the wife running to the police station to report to the commissioner of police and escorted back to the house with five policemen who came to search for the gun with a warrant of arrest. Dino was invited to the police headquarters and the same warrant of arrest later surface online claiming he had been arrested because of the Stella Oduah corruption case he was previously arrested for. ''Stella, can you believe that Dino sacked three of his domestic staff because they were updating Madam on the whereabouts and well being of her three children but were later quoted as being nine domestic staff sacked for being security risks? Dino has over 10 cars but if he has small issues with his wife, he seizes all the car keys and forces her to either trek or take public transport. If she returns home anyway after 7pm, she must sleep outside the gate till he returns home by 1am his usual time and when he gets back, just know that there is fire on the mountain''. To be Continued in the next Post .

{Gist} Parents are not meant to be Blamed

The term biological parent refers to a parent who is the biological mother or father of an individual. While an individual's parents are often also their biological parents, it is seldom used unless there is an explicit difference between who acted as a parent for that individual and the person from whom they inherit half of their genes. For example, a person whose father has remarried may call his new wife their stepmother and continue to refer to their mother normally, though someone who has had little or no contact with their biological mother may address their foster parent as their mother, and their biological mother as such, or perhaps by her first name.

When we were little, most of us assumed our parents are good at their jobs, it doesnt really occur to us that they dont always know what they are doing, But as we are getting older, we notice that our friends parents do things a bit differently. Maybe we are envious of them, or maybe we think we are the lucky ones. But probably as we get older it will start to dawn on us that our parents are getting some bits really really wrong.
This was what happened to me , i realized that my father was seriously bucking the trend by not actually being there for me at all. Before not long , i realized that my mother was in very different ways similarly hopeless, and she struggled to cope or to show affections towards me.
Now, in my case, things were sufficiently bad that i had to face up to them. Either i spend my life bitterly blaming my parents for almost all of my problems, or i move on. I then chose to recognize that my mother was just not even slightly cut out to be a parent, and that for someone like her, being a single parent to six children was too big a task. Maybe my mother realized too late that being a parent wasnt her thing.
I forgave her and got on with my life, It really saved me from becoming bitter and twisted, and it enabled me to put right the damage in a positive frame of mind. Funny enough, its often the people with the best parents who find it hardest to stop blaming them for the odd shortcoming, if your parents are basically pretty good at the job, its somehow tempting to blame them for not being absolutely perfect.
Your parents are only human, and its very likely that somewhere along the way they did few things that caused you real upset or difficulties.
Its too late to put things right by blaming your parents, but its not too late to let it go, recognize that their heart were in the right place, and quietly sort out any residual damage to yourself.

Coming Of Our Lord Jesus

And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said… this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven (Acts 1:9-11).

While the disciples stood gazing in awe as Jesus ascended into heaven, two angels appeared to them and said, "…This same Jesus, who has been received from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven" (Acts 1:11). This is so important; Jesus is coming again. This is the reason we’re preaching the Gospel around the world; the whole world needs to know that the Master is coming soon.
Jesus said in John 14:3, "…I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." It’s your responsibility to prepare for His coming. If you’re born again you’re assured that at His coming the Master would receive you to Himself. However, the one without Christ would face eternal condemnation. If you’re reading this today, and you’re yet to make Jesus the Lord of your life, do so right away! Say, "Lord Jesus, I ask that you come into my heart to be the Lord of my life, from this day onward."
The Apostle Peter alluding to the day of the Lord and the events that’ll herald His coming said, "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness" (2 Peter 3:10-11).
In everything you do, don’t lose focus of that day; live everyday as one who’s expecting the Master; carry that consciousness in your heart at all times.
While you’re getting yourself ready, you’re to help those around you get ready, and be prepared as well, for the coming of the Lord.
CONFESSION
Christ has been made unto me wisdom and that wisdom causes me to walk in the will of God, and fulfill my destiny in Christ. I’m walking worthy of the Lord, pleasing Him in all things as I joyfully anticipate His soon return. Amen.
